Wasif Ali Wasif is a writer, poet and Sufi intellectual from Pakistan. He is famous for his unique literary style. He used to write short pieces of prose on topics like love, life, fortune, fear, hope, expectation, promise, prayer, happiness, sorrow and so on. He did poetry in Urdu and Punjabi languages. Probably no contemporary Urdu writer is more cited in quotations than he is. Later years he used to answer questions in specially arranged gatherings at Lahore attended by the notable community. Some of these sessions were recorded in audio and were later published as Guftagoo (talk) series. His mehfils never had a set subject nor did he lecture on chosen topics. Wasif Ali Wasif (15 January 1929 – 18 January 1993) was a teacher, writer, poet and sufi intellectual from Pakistan. He was the son of Muhammad Arif. Wasif Ali Wasif received his early education in Khushab before going to Jhang, where he passed matriculation, intermediate and bachelors in the first division. He was proficient at hockey, receiving many awards both before and during college. After obtaining his bachelor's degree at Islamia College, Lahore, he opted for a master's degree in English literature. Wasif started writing for the college magazine named "Ravi". He wrote on many topics. His two writings on the topics “College Miserable Life” and “Farewell Party” survive to this day. He also passed the civil service exam but did not pursue it. In 1962 he established his own institute, "Lahore English College" near Anarkali in Lahore. Wasif had an interest in Sufism since childhood. He strived to meet Sufis and visited different shrines. Wasif Ali Wasif was born on January 15, 1929 in Shahpur, Khushab. His father's name was Malik Muhammad Arif and he belonged to the ancient and respected Awan tribe there. Wasif Ali Wasif's early education took place in Khushab. He passed the middle school examination from Government High School Khushab on June 1, 1942. After that he went to Jhang with his grandfather. He passed matriculation from Government High School Jhang on November 1, 1944. Passed FA from Government Intermediate College Jhang on January 2, 1948 and BA from Government College Jhang on December 19, 1949, then did MA in English Literature from Punjab University, passed Civil Service Examination on June 3, 1954. Wasif Ali Wasif was also a very good hockey player. He got married on October 24, 1970. Wasif Ali Wasif had a son and three daughters. His important books include Kiran-Kiran Suraj, Qatra-Qatra Qulzum, Harf-Harf Haqiqat, Dil Dariya Samandar, Baat Se Baat, Dariche, Zikr-e-Habib, Mukalama and Guftugu.
