Khadja Nin (27 juni1959) is een Burundese zangeres en muzikante. Ze is geboren in Burundi als jongste in een gezin van acht kinderen. Haar vader was diplomaat. Ze studeerde muziek op jonge leeftijd, net als de meeste van haar broers en zusters. Met haar uitzonderlijke stem werd ze al op zevenjarige leeftijd solozangeres in het koor van Bujumbura en trad ze op in de plaatselijke kathedraal.

[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]Nin verhuisde van Burundi naar Zaïre in 1975 en trouwde in 1978. In 1980 emigreerde ze naar België met haar zoon van twee jaar. In 1985 ontmoette ze de muzikant Nicolas Fiszman, die haar aan een platencontract hielp bij BMG. In 1992 verscheen haar debuutalbum Khadja Nin[1], waaruit de Belgische hit Wale Watu kwam. Haar tweede album uit 1994, Ya Pili, kreeg goede kritieken. In 1996 verscheen haar succesvolle album Sambolera, gezongen in het Swahili, Kirundi en Frans. Nin gebruikt een mengeling van Afrikaanse ritmes en moderne popmuziek om haar eigen unieke klank te vormen.

Khadija Nin
Khadja Nin was born in Burundi on June 27, 1959, the youngest of a family of eight. Her father was a diplomat. She studied music at an early age like most of her brothers and sisters. With her exceptional singing voice, at the age of seven she became one of the lead vocalists in the Bujumbura choir and performed in the local cathedral.
Khadja left Burundi for Zaire in 1975 and got married in 1978. In 1980 she emigrated to Belgium with her two-year-old son. In 1985 she met musician Nicolas Fiszman, who helped her get a contract with BMG. Her second album, a 1994 release entitled 'Ya Pili', was critically acclaimed.
Her breakthrough, however, came in 1996 with her widely popular album 'Sambolera', which was sung in Swahili, Kirundi, and French. In 1997 she performed the song 'Sailing' in a duet with Montserrat Caballé on the album 'Friends For Life'.
