1. What was your path to become a photographer?
I have been interested in photography since childhood, so approximately for 30 years. I took my first photo with an analog Minolta that my father gave me. Even though I was interested in photography since my early days, I started to improve my techniques with nature photography during my 20s. Back then, long exposures as well as black and white photography was not very popular in my country. For a long time I couldn’t evaluate my photos, they were only published in some foreign magazines, so I wasn’t able to do it professionally in my country. I still continue shooting as

EMILY DICKINSON

(1830–1886)

Emily Dickinson is one of America’s greatest and most original poets of all time. She took definition as her province and challenged the existing definitions of poetry and the poet’s work. She experimented with expression in order to free it from conventional restraints and she crafted a new type of persona for the first person. The speakers in Dickinson’s poetry, like those in Brontë’s and Browning’s works, are sharp-sighted observers who see the inescapable limitations of their societies as well as their imagined and imaginable escapes. To make the abstract tangible, to define meaning without confining it, to inhabit a house that never became a prison, Dickinson created in her writing a distinctively elliptical language for expressing what was possible but not yet realized.

Alexandre Deschaumes

A self-taught musician and photographer since early 2000, Alexandre is inspired by ethereal atmospheres.

"It's not just the visible reality that inspires me. It is by giving it an interpretation, particularly personal and emotional, that we will begin to be able to magnify this scene. And this includes the invocation of unspeakable energies ... Among all things, it is the atmosphere that guides me ... Always."

In 2012 I paused by my local river and everything changed. I’ve moved away from what many expect photographs to be: my images deconstruct the literal and reimagine the subjective, reflecting the curiosity that water has inspired in my practice. Water has been my conduit: it has sharpened my vision, given me permission to experiment and continues to introduce me to new ways of seeing.

Alexandre describes his photographic beginnings as coming from within as much as without, a means of expression which complements his passion for music and shares its improvisation.
