The reason that any of you are able to even visit a website or send an email is because of the work that Emmett did. But we'll get into all of that. Uh, but before we get into that, I wanted to start by asking where in the world were you born or raised and how did that end up impacting what you ended up doing with your life?

American entrepreneur

Emmit McHenry (born July 12, 1943) is an American entrepreneur, engineer, and technology pioneer known for his contributions to the internet. He founded Network Solutions, Inc. in 1995, which became the first company to register domain names, playing a crucial role in the development of the domain name system (DNS), making the internet more user-friendly.

Early life and education

Emmit McHenry was born in Forrest City, Arkansas, and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the historic Greenwood District, which was widely known as "Black Wall Street", a hub of Black entrepreneurship before the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. McHenry attended Stewart Elementary, Carver Middle School, and Booker T. Washington High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in communications from the University of Denver in 1966 and later completed a Master of Science at Northwestern University in 1979.^[1]^[2]

He grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, attending Stewart Elementary School, Carver Middle School and Booker T. Washington High School. He received his B.S. in communications from the University of Denver in 1966. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he attained the rank of lieutenant. McHenry earned his M.S. degree in communications from Northwestern University in 1979. He started as an IBM Systems Engineer and later served as Assistant Dean and Instructor at Northwestern University.

With Gary Desler, Ty Grigsby, and Ed Peters he founded his first full-time entrepreneurial venture: Network Solutions.[1]

His accolades include an Honorary Doctorate from Shaw University, the Marine Corps Sunset Parade Guest of Honor for his contributions to the Nations C4 Capacity, and the Chairman’s Award from the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Foundation.

He is currently CEO, in partnership with his son Kurt, of Archura,[2] a telecommunications systems integrator, and chairman and CEO of Defense Manufacturing.
