I'm now fully settled into my studio in Morecambe and doing most of my teaching from there.

My teaching practice is keeping me very busy and I'm not currently touring or playing any gigs but who knows what might be round the next corner!

The Early Years

First off, you may know me best as the drummer from Simply Red. But more about that later.

I was born at a very early age in Manchester, North West England.

I started playing drums at the age of 15. After three months I was in a band, called Flashback, with friends, playing rock and roll songs in pubs on Fridays and Saturdays. I was bitten by the bug of getting up on stage in front of people.

After Flashback I joined a band called Fast Breeder and we were managed by the now infamous and sadly deceased, Tony Wilson, founder of Factory Records.

Chris Slade (born Christopher Slade Rees; 30 October 1946) is a Welsh[1] drummer, who is perhaps best known for playing for Manfred Mann's Earth Band from its inception in 1971 to 1978 on eight albums, and AC/DC, for which he drummed from 1989 to 1994 and performed on the 1990 album The Razors Edge. He returned to AC/DC in February 2015 to replace Phil Rudd for the "Rock or Bust World Tour".[2][3] Slade has also played with Tom Jones, Toomorrow, Uriah Heep, The Firm, and Asia.[4]

Early life and career

Slade was born Christopher Rees in Pontypridd, Glamorgan, South Wales. He has worked with Gary Numan, Tom Jones, Olivia Newton-John (as co-members of the band Toomorrow), and Uriah Heep. Slade was an original founding member of Manfred Mann's Earth Band, playing on their eight studio albums released from 1972 to 1978.

In the mid-1980s Slade played with Paul Rodgers and Jimmy Page in The Firm.[4]

Chris Kontos is a Sick American Drummer born in New York City. As a former drummer of Machine Head, he performed on their first album, 1994’s Burn My Eyes. Chris currently plays in Forbidden and The Boneless Ones and has played in many other bands/projects like Testament, Konkhra, Attitude Adjustment, Exodus, Death Angel, and Verbal Abuse. Sick drummers worldwide recognize Chris for his performance on songs like “Davidian,” a timeless classic in the history of metal drumming.

  • Kontos performed with Machine Head for the first time in 24 years with a tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of Burn My Eyes in 2019.
  • On April 19, 2023, Kontos was announced as the drummer for the reactivated band Forbidden and has recently been endorsed by Ddrum, Soultone, and Czarcie Kopyto!

  • Chris also recently joined forces with his nephew in the band Zack G. And The Moonlighters.
