Leslie Dixon WeatherheadCBE (14 October 1893 – 5 January 1976) was an English Christian theologian in the liberal Protestant tradition. Weatherhead was noted for his preaching ministry at City Temple in London and for his books, including The Will of God, The Christian Agnostic, and Psychology, Religion, and Healing.
Life
Weatherhead was born in London in 1893. He trained for the Wesleyan Methodist ministry at Richmond Theological College, in south-west London. The First World War cut short his training, and he became Methodist minister at Farnham, Surrey, in September 1915. After serving in India, Manchester, and Leeds, Weatherhead became the minister of the City Temple, a Congregational Church on Holborn Viaduct in London. He served there from 1936 until his retirement in 1960. From 1930 till 1939, Weatherhead was a member of Frank Buchman's Oxford Group and wrote several books reflecting the group's values, including Discipleship and The W Service drop entry point For people with this surname, see Weatherhead (surname). A weatherhead, also called a weathercap, service head, service entrance cap, or gooseneck (slang) is a weatherproofservice drop entry point where overhead power or telephone wires enter a building, or where wires transition between overhead and underground cables. At a building the wires enter a conduit, a protective metal pipe, and the weatherhead is a waterproof cap on the end of the conduit that allows the wires to enter without letting in water. It is shaped like a hood, with the surface where the wires enter facing down at an angle of at least 45°, to shield it from precipitation. A rubberizedgasket makes for a tight seal against the wires. Before they enter the weatherhead, a drip loop is left in the overhead wires, which permits rain water that collects on the wires to drip off before reaching the weatherhead. A weatherhead termination is only used at low voltages (up to 600 volts), since higher distribution vo Celia S. Ms. Weatherhead devotes herself to the community as President of the Weatherhead Foundation and the Albert J. Weatherhead, III Foundation. Ms. Weatherhead and her late husband, Al, have given generously to Tulane, endowing the Celia Scott Weatherhead Distinguished Chair in Philosophy, the Margaret W. and Eamon M. Kelly Distinguished Chair in International Development, and the Weatherhead Presidential Chair in Health Equity, currently held by Dean Thomas LaVeist. In 1994, the Weatherheads were inducted into the Paul Tulane Society, the university’s highest distinction. Ms. Weatherhead’s current involvements are the breeding and training of Italian greyhounds for show dogs and pets. She has a small canine couture design and marketing business known as Kozy Kashmir, Inc.
