Anita Blanton Biography

Anita Blanton is an American Anchor working at WAVY where she serves as an evening anchor during the 5 pm, 6 pm, and 11 pm newscast as well as WAVY News 10 at 10 pm on FOX43. She joined the WAVY team in March 2016, after previously working at KOCO-TV.

Blanton attended Abilene Cooper High School where she graduated proudly. Later on, she joined Hampton University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism and political science. She was also named to the inaugural Top 40 Under 40 Alumni Class.

Blanton works at WAVY where she serves as the 5 pm, 6 pm, and 11 pm anchor and the 10 pm anchor on FOX43. Prior to joining the WAVY team, she worked at KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where she worked for four years as a morning anchor. In addition, she started her career at KTXS-TV in Abilene, Texas where she served as a reporter. Later on, she joined KWTX-TV in Waco and WRIC-TV in Richmond, Virginia in Central

Anita Blanton joined the news team as co-anchor of Eyewitness News 5 In The Morning in Oct. 2008. Previously, she was a morning anchor and reporter at WRIC-TV in Richmond, Va.

Anita began her career in journalism at KTXS-TV in Abilene, Texas, before heading to Central Texas to work at KWTX-TV in Waco.

Some of the most memorable reports in Anita’s career have been centered around severe weather coverage. From being on the forefront of tornado coverage in both Texas and Virginia, to delivering live reports during the worst fire season in Texas history, Anita has been a trusted source of information to viewers.

While in Texas, she was able to cover President George W. Bush and other officials travelling to and from Crawford.  She was also a part of team coverage in Virginia throughout Michael Vick’s federal trial and at the time of the Virginia Tech massacre.

Anita is a proud alumna of Hampton University in Hampton, VA. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in broadcast journalism and political science from the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications.
