I’ve lived in Brampton for 35 years. My wife and I raised three children here. I’m running because I love Brampton – it’s my home. I’m from Brampton and for Brampton.
I know the challenges facing small businesses, I started and grew a family business in Brampton. I have been active in the Brampton Board of Trade, serving on its Marketing Committee.

From 2011 to 2015 I served as Member of Parliament for Bramalea-Gore-Malton, and as Minister of State for Sport in the Harper government. I am proud to have been the longest serving Minister in that portfolio in Canadian history. I understand how to get results from the federal and provincial governments.

I’m a believer in the value of community service and have been active in the Brampton community for many years. I served on the Peel Regional Police Services Board, the YMCA Regional Council Board, the Peel Children’s Aid Society, the City of Brampton Property Standards Committee, Brampton Civic Hospital Fundraising Committee, and many others. Baljit Singh Gosal - popularly known as "Bal" - was named Canada's Minister of State (Sport) by Prime Minister Stephen Harper as part of his first majority government in Ottawa.

Bal Gosal defeated his rivals by a narrow margin in the federal election held on May 2, 2011, when he received 19,907 votes, compared to NDP's Jagmeet Singh Dhaliwal (19,368 votes) and the long-time incumbent, Liberal Gurbax Singh Malhi (16,402)

Bal and his family have lived in Brampton, Ontario, for over 22 years. Bal and his wife, Pawanjit Kaur Gosal, have three children growing up in Brampton - two daughters Jasmine Kaur and Priya Kaur and a son, Sanjot Singh. Originally from Punjab - born in village Ratainda, district Nawanshahr - Bal moved to Canada in 1981, originally residing in British Columbia. In 1983, he moved to Ontario and settled in Brampton.

Baljit Singh GosalPC (born May 4, 1960) is a Canadian politician who served as the ConservativeMember of Parliament (MP) for the electoral district of Bramalea—Gore—Malton from 2011 until 2015. He served as Minister of State (Sport) in the cabinet of Prime MinisterStephen Harper.[1] Gosal was one of five visible minorities serving in the Harper cabinet. He was defeated by Liberal candidate Ramesh Sangha in the 2015 election.

Early life

Baljit Singh Gosal was born on May 4, 1960 in Ratainda, in the Nawanshahr District of Punjab, India into a Jatt Sikh family. Gosal immigrated to Canada in 1981 settling in Northern British Columbia.[2] Soon after, he moved to Brampton with his wife, Pawanjit.[2] His formal education includes a Bachelor of Science degree from DAV College Jalandhar in 1981 and a Stationary Engineer 4th class Certificate. Gosal began working in the financial sector first in 1984 for McDonnell Douglas Canada and later in 1994 for Prudential Insurance, which later became London Life. He started
