Thriving Ivory is a California rock band whose 2006 demo CD quickly amassed an enthusiastic fan base.

The band’s music is passionate, sensitive, well crafted, and monumental, and perfectly suited to the innovative vocal style of lead singer Clayton Stroope. Their self-titled debut album with Wind-up Records is based on the original demo. The band is now touring Canada.

The following are notes from a conversation with the band’s drummer, Paul Niedermier.

That Ivory Sound

It’s really rewarding to have fans connect with the music. We get emails and MySpace messages every day from people who are really connecting with ?Angels on the Moon.? Every email is completely different; everybody has a different idea of what that song means. One guy wrote to us saying he thought it was about the New York Yankees. Someone else wrote in whodunnits’d lost their mother to cancer and had been touched by that song. I don’t even write the lyrics but It’s rewarding for me to be a part of it.

Thriving Ivory was an American rock band based in the San Francisco Bay area. They released their self-titled Wind-up Recordsdebut album on June 24, 2008. The debut album reached number 1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart on the strength of the charting single "Angels on the Moon".[1][2] After half a year, "Angels on the Moon" appeared on the US Pop 100 Chart, reaching number 28. Several songs off of the record were recorded with award-winning producer Howard Benson.

The band was featured as a VH1 You Oughta Know Artist and won the Yahoo! Music: Who's Next? User's Choice Competition.[3] In 2009 they performed their single "Angels on the Moon" on Jimmy Kimmel Live![4] and The Rachael Ray Show.[5] Early in 2010 their first single "Angels on The Moon" went certified Gold in the US selling over 500,000 copies. Thriving Ivory is the self-titled debut album of American rock bandThriving Ivory. The album was originally released on May 18, 2003, on the Wolfgang label. The album was re-released on June 21, 2008, on Wind-up Records, replacing the song "Flowers for a Ghost" with "Alien". The sound of their self-titled release was inspired by bands such as U2 and Coldplay. The album peaked at number 1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.[2]

Keyboard player Scott Jason told Songfacts the track "Alien", "is the most personal song [to me] on the record. That song is about my brother. And my brother, he's a brilliant, brilliant, brilliant kid, a full scholarship to Berkeley, and he's gone through some pretty heavy stuff. So that song is really personal."[3]
