Historically, Owu region in the Federal Republic of Nigeria is bounded in the south by Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun State; in the east by Ife South Local Government Area; in the north by Gbongan – one of the prominent towns in Osun State and in the west by Irewole/Isokan Local Government Area. Ago-Owu in Abeokuta is where the Owus are mostly concentrated, however large Owu settlements are found throughout the Yoruba kingdom. Commitment to Enhancing Campus Life
Belief in scholarship, service, and supporting peers during their college years and beyond as alumni/ae, has been a tenet of membership, both in the past and today. These organizations play an important role in providing leadership training and support as each collegian progresses through their course of study.
Since 1853, when the first men’s fraternity was established at Ohio Wesleyan University, members of fraternities and in later years, sororities, continue to contribute to campus life. Beta Theta Pi was installed that year and others of the Miami triad from Oxford, Ohio, with Sigma Chi joining in 1855, and Phi Delta Theta in 1860. Other chapters established during this time include Phi Kappa Psi, Alpha Sigma Phi, Delta Tau Delta, and Phi Gamma Delta. Chapters established in the 1870s and 1880s included Chi Phi, Alpha Tau Omega, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon. The late 1920s and early 1930 saw Kappa Sigma and Tau Kappa Epsilon join campus.

George Gauthier
George Gauthier (Go-shay), known as the Little Giant, was a legendary figure at Ohio Wesleyan, having served as a coach and athletic director for nearly four decades. Gauthier played football and basketball for Michigan Agricultural College, which later become Michigan State. He arrived in Delaware in 1921 as the head football coach and athletic director. Gauthier coached football for 26 years, compiling a record of 121-98-14 and winning five conference championships. Two of his biggest wins were over Michigan and Michigan State. He served as athletic director for 34 years. He also coached men’s track and field and cross country, winning a combined 10 conference titles. He even coached basketball for one year. Gauthier was a member of the inaugural Ohio Wesleyan Athletics Hall of Fame in 1961, and the Selby Stadium track is named in his honor. He died in 1964 in Ontario, Canada, at age 74.
