Sir Jack Hayward
Born close to Molineux, Sir Jack Hayward was a Wolves fan from an early age and his affection for all things Wulfrunian and British has never faded.
The Bahamas-based multi-millionaire had espoused many good causes over the years and there was no way he would let his beloved club stagnate. He was part of one failed bid to take control before buying Wolves in 1990. One of his first actions was to bring club legend Billy Wright on to the board of directors. Sir Jack then dug deep into his pocket to ensure the decaying Molineux was given three new stands to turn it into a 28,500-capacity all-seat stadium. Typically, he made it clear that there was no way he wanted the ground’s name to incorporate his, though few fans would have objected if he did. He gave successive managers money to spend on players but had to wait until 2003 before Wolves at last regained top-flight status, though it proved to be for only one season. He eventually passed on the baton to Steve Morgan for just £10 and a promise of heavy investment.
Date of birth: June 14, 1923, Wolverhampton.

Remembering Sir Jack | 'He made the club what it is today'
On what would have been his 100th birthday, Sir Jack’s legacy is celebrated, not only at Molineux and Compton Park – where a stand and the training ground bear his name – but across the city of Wolverhampton. A city which will always be indebted to his philanthropic ways and a city which has always been united by their love for their football club.
“Sir Jack was an unbelievable person,” remembers Matt Murray. “Fun-loving, friendly, a massive Wolves fan, a fan of the academy and the youth as well, and he was just a man of the people. He really, really loved the club.”
“He was the most charismatic man I’ve ever met,” former CEO Jez Moxey said. “He has a presence that when he walked into the room, everyone knew he was there, and his love for the club just shone through.
“You knew this man was completely and utterly besotted with Wolverhampton Wanderers and expected everybody else to be that way.”
Having been born a stone’s throw away from Molineux in Whitmore Reans, Sir Jack first watched Wolves at the age of
