Ram Mandir ceremony: MS Dhoni receives invitation for ‘Pran Pratishtha’ event

Former team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Monday became the third cricketer to receive an invitation to attend the 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony of Ram Temple on January 22 in Ayodhya. The World Cup-winning captain was handed the invite by the co-province secretary of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Dhananjay Singh and BJP leader Karmaveer Singh at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) stadium in Ranchi.

WASHINGTON, DC: An Indian American girl named Pratishtha Khanna has been named as a 2014 Champion of Change by the White House, and was honored at a ceremony on Tuesday along with the nine other individuals selected alongside her.

Khanna and her co-awardees are part of the Champions of Change’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) designation. DACA is a legislation that was signed into effect by President Barack Obama almost exactly two years ago, and prevents US immigration authorities from pursuing removal actions against individuals who came to the country illegally when they were children, but are now pursuing educational or military work in America.

“The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) White House Champions of Change recipients are being honored for their exemplary leadership in their communities,” said the White House, in a statement. “These DACA recipients serve as success stories and role models in their academic and professional spheres,” the White House said

More seers extend support to Ram temple consecration

NEW DELHI: More Hindu figures came out on Monday to throw support to the 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony of Lord Ram's idol at the temple in Ayodhya, which is scheduled for January 22, saying that those faulting the consecration on the ground that the construction of the temple is still under way are glossing over the important precedent of Somnath Temple in Gujarat.
Endorsing the ceremony, they noted that when the consecration ceremony at Somnath Temple in Gujarat was done, it was far from complete and asserted that the exercise in Ayodhya is in line with scriptures.
Shashikant Das of Saryu Aarti said in a statement that the auspicious occasion in Ayodhya has come after a wait and struggle of 500 years and nothing should be done to take away from its enormity.
