As enjoyable and exciting as I find shounen ai/yaoi no matter how ridiculous the lack of real character development or plot are just to make way of what I deem 'sexy times' between pretty boys, my views are a lot more critical when it comes to its counterpart, shoujo ai/yuri. I think it stems from the fact that I have been in relationships with women, both romantic and sexual. In fact, it was only two years ago that I came out as bisexual (and it's been grueling to even admit it). Abstract

Shoplifting, counterfeit money, black money, fraud, kidnapping, murder. Which one will put you in jail the longest? Kiriko, who has been taking care of her elderly parents, has never married and is now 76 years old. She has left her parents behind and lives on a meager pension and part-time cleaning work, but has no savings. Her best friend Tomo, who used to live with her, passed away due to illness. He was their only family and best friend.... If he continues like this, he will die alone and cause trouble for others. One day, while he was living in despair, he saw a startling image on TV. An elderly inmate is being cared for in prison. This is it! Seeing a silver lining, Kiriko begins to search for a crime that will allow her to stay in prison for a long time.

Peppe is an Italian manga artist who has won his first serialization with the manga Mingo: Itariajin ga Minna Moteru to Omou na yo (English title|Mingo: Don’t think that all Italians would be popular with the girls!) (Shogakukan). Peppe is also active as a model, appearing in Japanese reality television show Terrace House Tokyo in 2019.

We at TOKION asked Peppe to create a manga series to find out what an Italian man thinks of Japanese culture. In the series, Peppe will experience Japan’s unique culture and introduce it in the form of a short manga story. In the fifth installment, Peppe goes to Sumida-ku, Tokyo, to experience for the first time the design of “Edo Kiriko” (a generic name for faceted glassware produced in Tokyo from the end of the Edo period to the present). Discover how it turned out.

–This time, you tried your hand at designing “Edo Kiriko,” a traditional form of Japanese glass art designated as one of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s traditional crafts.
